TRANSPORT - OFF ISLAND

PARKING AND ACCESS AT STONY POINT
Parking is available in the Stony Point Caravan Park for a small annual fee which is payable at the car park kiosk. Call at the caravan park manager's office with any queries.

Security passes for vehicular access to the Stony Point jetty are available free of charge to French Island residents. The easiest way to obtain one is to visit the Toll office with proof of residency or land ownership. For more information, contact Toll on 5983 9406.

FERRY
Inter Island Ferries operates a passenger-only ferry service from Stony Point on the western side of Western Port to Tankerton on French Island and also to Cowes on Phillip Island.

The ferry service runs daily, subject to weather. Bookings are not required. Tickets should be purchased from the Stony Point Kiosk or on board after the Kiosk is closed. An additional fee applies to transport bicycles.

Residents of French Island can buy tickets of 20 directly from the company. These tickets attract a discount to the standard fare.

To obtain a resident ticket, check with ferry crew about current costs. A cheque or money order can then be sent with a request for a 20-trip French Island residents ticket to:

Inter Island Ferries
PO Box 11
Parkdale 3194
Include a self-addressed and stamped envelope.

An additional ferry service runs at 7.30am from Tankerton during school terms to accommodate high school students attending schools on the mainland.

For prices, times and more information about the service, visit www.interislandferries.com.au

BARGE
The French Island Barge Company operates a vehicular ferry from Corinella on the eastern side of Western Port to the barge landing on French Island. It accommodates two standard size cars or a larger truck.

A minimum 24 hours notice is required for bookings. However, it is advisable to book as far in advance as possible, as the barge schedule and availability is limited by times and tides. As a guide, the barge runs approximately every half hour for a few hours either side of high tide.

Foot passengers can take the barge but they should arrange transportation at either end as there are no other facilities.

For information about fees and to book the Barge, call 0428 880729.

PRIVATE BOATS
Parks Victoria maintains the boat ramp adjacent to the Tankerton jetty from which boats can be launched. There is no permanent berthing on the jetty.
