CAMPING
|
French Island National Park covers two thirds of the land area of French Island, 11000 Hectares, including the entire coastal margin.
Camping in the Park is restricted to the Fairhaven campsite on the west coast.

One third of the island is privately owned freehold land. Camping on private land, with the permission of the landowner, is permitted.
There are three local tourism businesses that offer camping facilities:
French Island Bus Tours
McLeod Eco-Farm
French Island Eco Tours
Further accommodation options are shown at:
French Island Local Businesses
Food and other supplies are available at the
French Island General Store
The residents of French Island ask that campers on private land respect the natural environment by confining their campsites to
already cleared land, and by exercising care in the disposal of waste and the use of fire.
Open fires are prohibited anywhere on the island during declared Fire Danger Periods. Open fires at other times are legally
permitted but not encouraged due to the highly combustible nature of the local vegetation.
It is strongly recommended that campers use portable cooking stoves.
And don't forget to bring insect repellant and mozzie nets!
