JOIN FICA TODAY

MEMBERSHIP

All French Island landholders and residents are encouraged to become members of the French Island Community Association (FICA). FICA provides a strong, united voice and works on behalf of all islanders to maintain a sustainable and unique environment.

Why Join?
French Island is administered directly by government departments. Without a local council, it is essential that islanders have a collective voice in decision making.
FICA provides that voice.

Why membership matters

• Access to funding: The island receives no municipal income. However, State and Federal grants are available for worthwhile projects — and these are far more likely to be awarded to a recognised community association than to individuals.

• Proven results: FICA has delivered tangible improvements, including the shelter on the Stony Point jetty, the community tennis court, the rain water storage tank, bottle-crusher and tip shelter.

• Community services: FICA manages the island tip, saving residents from the statutory fees charged elsewhere. Membership fees also support the upkeep of the tennis court and jetty shelter, offering exceptional value compared to council rates.

• Protecting autonomy: FICA is committed to maintaining the island’s unique unincorporated status. We have no interest in merging with neighbouring municipalities, which would impose rates and municipal politics.

The bigger picture
Ongoing member support ensures that French Island remains capable, responsible and independent — preserving our autonomy while continuing to deliver practical benefits for the community.

Membership fees are due on September 1 each year.
