ABOUT FICA
|
French Island is an unincorporated territory, meaning it has no municipal council,
associated rates or by-laws. Residents have established a non-profit organisation
to provide representation for the community's interests. This group, the French
Island Community Association (FICA) is voluntary. Each year, a small band of people
gives up many hours to deal with local issues as they arise on behalf of residents.
FICA holds an Annual General Meeting around September of each year to provide a
review of the year, and to elect a committee for the coming year ie from Sept 1 to Aug 31.
Nomination forms are sent to all members prior to the AGM and final voting takes
place at the AGM on a 'first past the post' basis.
The Committee meets regularly throughout the year, usually on a monthly basis, to
discuss on-going issues, finance and correspondence. Any French Island resident can arrange to attend a meeting,
approach committee members with concerns and offer help
and expertise.
Issues can be raised by residents and put on the agenda for the next meeting.
The committee for 2011/2012 is:
